Bachelor of science in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois, 1969; master of science in mechanical engineering from California State University-Fresno, 1978; Colonel, USAF, Ret.; test pilot; later instructor pilot at JSC; in a second marriage married to astronaut Linda Godwin; hobbies: Sport flying, amateur radio, music; until August 2011 NASA Research Pilot, JSC. After retiring from NASA on May 31, 2011, Nagel joined the University Of Missouri College of Engineering in Columbia, Missouri, where he served as an instructor in the University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. He died of cancer.
